Workshop Host: Brandi Lee Lough Dennell

Workshop Description: The boundaries of fieldwork: research participants, collaborators or authors?

Are the people from the field research participants, knowledge collaborators or authors? The workshop will consider researcher positionality and making choices throughout the research process. We will explore how feminist methods influence and inform the process, from gaining access to a fieldwork site, working for the agendas of others in the field, and choosing how to represent the participants with issues of power and authorship. The workshop will cover these topics through group discussions of scenarios and fieldwork experiences and an exploration of the ‘grey areas’ that characterise qualitative fieldwork methodology.
