I am in my second PhD year in Social Policy. In my work, I am taking a life course perspective to look at the relationships between women’s work, single motherhood and welfare state institutions in Germany and Britain. Using sequence analysis, my work is primarily quantitative. But I am also aiming at – and am really excited about – using narrative analysis on quantitative survey data. One of my main interests is in the interplay of theory and methods, and I think feminist research is an amazing field to explore the connections.
I joined the reading group (Femjoy), where the idea for this conference developed, when I moved from Germany to Edinburgh to start my PhD. The regular meetings have enriched and supported my PhD studies and my experiences in academia. I am looking forward to this conference, where I hope the Femjoy-joy will spill over to everyone participating!
